SHINE to Thrive
Primary Education, Confidence & Early Intervention
Part of the Inspiring Futures THRIVE Framework
Trust • Hope • Resilience • Independence • Value • Empowerment
Every child deserves the opportunity to SHINE — and every child deserves the opportunity to THRIVE.
SHINE to Thrive
Primary Education • Early Intervention • Confidence • Belonging
Every child deserves to feel that they belong, that they can succeed and that there are adults who believe in them.
SHINE to Thrive is Inspiring Futures’ primary-age offer for children aged 7–11, providing early, relationship-led support for children who may be beginning to experience barriers to learning, attendance, emotional wellbeing or positive engagement with school.
We believe some of the greatest opportunities to change a young person’s future come when we act early.
SHINE combines education, mentoring, emotional wellbeing, physical activity, personal development and trusted relationships to help children build the foundations they need before difficulties become more deeply established.
We don’t begin by asking:
“How do we manage this behaviour?”
We ask:
“What does this child need to feel safe, confident and able to SHINE?”
Why SHINE?
Children don't suddenly become disengaged teenagers.
The journey often begins much earlier.
A child who repeatedly feels unsuccessful may stop trying.
A child who struggles to regulate emotions may become known for their behaviour.
A child who feels different may begin to withdraw.
A child who becomes anxious about school may gradually stop attending.
And a child who believes adults don't understand them may eventually stop asking for help.
SHINE provides an opportunity to interrupt those patterns early.
Before disengagement becomes entrenched.
Before absence becomes long-term.
Before behaviour becomes identity.
Before a child begins to believe that they are the problem.
The SHINE Approach
SHINE sits within our wider THRIVE Framework and gives children five simple principles around which their individual journey can develop.
S — SELF-BELIEF
Helping children recognise their strengths, celebrate progress and begin to believe:
“I can.”
H — HOPE
Helping children understand that difficult days don't define their future and that things can change.
I — INDEPENDENCE
Developing confidence, problem-solving, decision-making and the ability to gradually manage challenges for themselves.
N — NURTURE
Providing the safety, consistency and positive relationships children need in order to develop and grow.
E — EMPOWERMENT
Helping children find their voice, understand their choices and recognise that they can influence what happens next.

Emotional Wellbeing & Regulation
Children aren't born knowing how to manage difficult emotions.
They learn.
SHINE helps children develop the language and strategies they need to recognise and respond to feelings such as:
Anger • Anxiety • Frustration • Sadness • Worry • Overwhelm
Through age-appropriate activities and trusted relationships, children can learn to recognise triggers, communicate needs and practise different ways of responding.
The goal isn't a child who never becomes upset.
It's a child who increasingly understands what is happening inside them — and knows what they can do next.
Supporting Attendance Early
Attendance difficulties rarely begin overnight.
There may initially be tears before school.
Physical complaints.
Anxiety on Sunday evenings.
Increasing lateness.
Occasional days missed.
Difficulty separating from parents or carers.
Or behaviour that becomes more challenging as school approaches.
These early signs matter.
SHINE can provide relationship-led support to understand what's creating the difficulty and work alongside the child, family and school before absence becomes more established.
Early attendance support isn't about forcing a child through the door.
It's about understanding what is making the door feel so difficult to walk through.
