Safer Choices - Stronger Futures
"From Risk Reduction to Reintegration"

Safer Choices, Stronger Futures
Through our SAFER Landings programme, we support young people who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system, as well as those who have received a conviction or are already involved with justice services.
We look beyond labels and focus on the individual—their experiences, strengths, needs and potential. Through trusted relationships, mentoring, positive activities and practical support, we help young people understand risk, take responsibility for their choices and develop safer, more positive pathways forward.
Our approach combines prevention, rehabilitation and reintegration, supporting young people at every stage to move towards a more stable and hopeful future.
Our Aims
SAFER Landings aims to help young people:
-
Recognise and reduce risks within their lives.
-
Understand choices, consequences and personal responsibility.
-
Build confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.
-
Develop safer relationships and positive peer networks.
-
Improve engagement with education, training or employment.
-
Reduce involvement in offending and harmful behaviour.
-
Build stability, purpose and hope for the future.
-
Reintegrate positively into family and community life.
A Lived-Experience Approach
Lived experience is an important part of our approach. Where appropriate, young people can work with positive role models who understand some of the challenges, pressures and choices they may be facing.
This helps build credibility and trust, particularly with young people who may be reluctant to engage with traditional services. Lived experience is used responsibly and professionally—not to glorify past behaviour, but to demonstrate that change is possible and that decisions made today do not have to define someone’s future.
Our mentors combine relatable experience with clear boundaries, safeguarding practice and a consistent focus on positive change.
How Support Can Be Delivered
SAFER Landings can be adapted around the young person, referral pathway and level of need. Delivery may include:
-
One-to-one mentoring and targeted intervention.
-
Outreach and community-based support.
-
Small-group prevention and rehabilitation programmes.
-
School-based workshops and targeted group work.
-
Boxing, sport and physical wellbeing sessions.
-
Risk-awareness and positive decision-making activities.
-
Support during release, resettlement and reintegration.
-
Family meetings and parent or carer support.
-
Practical support, advocacy and signposting.
-
Partnership work with schools, youth justice, probation, prisons, social care and community services.
Support can be delivered as a short targeted intervention or as part of a longer-term programme.
Boxing as a Tool for Change
Boxing is central to our engagement approach and provides far more than physical exercise.
Structured boxing sessions can help young people develop discipline, focus, patience, emotional control and respect. Pad work, fitness training and coached activities provide a positive outlet for difficult emotions while creating natural opportunities for conversation and mentoring.
Boxing can also help young people to:
-
Build confidence and self-belief.
-
Manage frustration and regulate emotions.
-
Develop commitment and perseverance.
-
Follow boundaries and respond to guidance.
-
Experience achievement in a positive environment.
-
Build trust with coaches and mentors.
-
Improve physical and emotional wellbeing.
Participation is adapted to individual needs and abilities. Boxing is never used to encourage aggression; it is used as a structured tool to promote control, responsibility and positive change.
Supporting Families
Justice-system involvement can affect the whole family. Parents, carers, partners and siblings may experience worry, relationship difficulties, financial pressure, isolation and uncertainty about the future.
We provide families with a safe and non-judgemental space to talk, access practical guidance and prepare for important transitions. Support can help families establish healthy boundaries, improve communication, rebuild relationships and support positive change without overlooking their own wellbeing.
Intended Outcomes
Depending on the individual’s needs and starting point, outcomes may include:
-
Reduced offending or risk-taking behaviour.
-
Improved emotional regulation and decision-making.
-
Increased confidence, motivation and resilience.
-
Stronger relationships with family and positive adults.
-
Reduced association with harmful peers or influences.
-
Improved engagement with education, training or employment.
-
Greater personal responsibility and awareness of consequences.
-
Improved routines, stability and independence.
-
Successful reintegration into family and community life.
-
A clearer and more positive plan for the future.
Progress looks different for every young person. We recognise and build on every meaningful step, from attending a first session and trusting a mentor to returning to education or completing a period without further offending.
