THRIVE in the Holidays
Positive Activities • Trusted Support • New Experiences • Ages 11–18
Part of the Inspiring Futures THRIVE Framework
Trust • Hope • Resilience • Independence • Value • Empowerment
Because every young person deserves somewhere to belong, something to look forward to and the opportunity to THRIVE.
Who Can We Support?
THRIVE in the Holidays is designed to be inclusive while particularly creating opportunities for young people who may otherwise struggle to access positive activities during school breaks.
This can include young people who are:
-
from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds
-
unable to access activities because of cost or transport barriers
-
experiencing loneliness, isolation or low confidence
-
living with SEND or additional support needs
-
struggling with anxiety or emotional wellbeing
-
experiencing difficulties within education or at home
-
disengaged from education or experiencing poor attendance
-
vulnerable to exploitation, offending or negative peer influences
-
known to school pastoral, SEND or safeguarding teams
-
receiving support from social care, youth justice or other services
-
in need of positive relationships with trusted adults and peers
-
preparing to return to education following a difficult term or extended absence
-
already working with Inspiring Futures and benefiting from continuity during school breaks
We understand that joining something new isn't easy for everyone.
Our team takes time to help each young person feel safe, welcomed and included, allowing relationships and confidence to develop at their own pace.
No young person should miss out on positive experiences simply because their circumstances make them harder to access.
What Might THRIVE in the Holidays Include?
Every programme is different, with activities shaped around the young people involved, available funding and opportunities within our community.
Activities can include:
Boxing & Fitness
Developing confidence, discipline, focus, resilience and physical wellbeing.
Football & Team Sports
Creating opportunities for teamwork, communication, positive competition and friendship.
Swimming
Supporting physical wellbeing, confidence and positive experiences outside the usual environment.
Climbing & Adventure Activities
Encouraging young people to challenge themselves, manage fear, solve problems and experience achievement.
Bowling, Pool & Recreational Activities
Relaxed opportunities to socialise, build friendships and have fun.
Golf & New Experiences
Introducing young people to activities and environments they may never previously have had the opportunity to access.
Creative & Practical Activities
Providing different ways to participate, express themselves, develop skills and discover new interests.
Team-Building Challenges
Developing communication, problem-solving, resilience and positive peer relationships.
Community Trips & Experiences
Broadening horizons and creating positive memories beyond a young person's everyday environment.
Wellbeing & Confidence Activities
Helping young people recognise strengths, develop self-belief and build strategies for managing challenges.
1-to-1 & Group Mentoring
Providing opportunities for informal support, reflection and positive conversations with trusted adults.
Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing Support
Giving young people safe opportunities to talk and access additional support where needed.
Mentoring Without the Meeting Room
Some of our most important conversations happen when nobody has called it a mentoring session.
Walking to an activity.
Travelling somewhere together.
Sitting after boxing.
Playing pool.
Having lunch.
Waiting for a turn at bowling.
These ordinary moments can remove the pressure young people sometimes associate with formal interventions.
Our practitioners use them naturally.
To listen.
To check in.
To encourage.
To challenge when appropriate.
And sometimes simply to be there.
Young people can talk about what's happening in their lives without feeling like they've been brought into a room to “talk about their problems.”
Where a young person shares a concern or our team identifies an emerging need, we can work appropriately with families, schools and other professionals to help ensure additional support is available.
Food, Connection & Conversation
Food is an important part of our holiday offer.
Where programmes allow, young people receive meals, snacks and refreshments during their time with us.
For families experiencing financial pressures, this can help with some of the additional demands created by the school holidays.
But sharing food also does something else.
It creates community.
A chance to sit down.
Talk.
Laugh.
Share experiences.
And feel part of the group.
Sometimes something as simple as sharing lunch helps create the feeling that you belong.
Safe Spaces During School Holidays
Long periods without structure can increase vulnerability for some young people.
THRIVE in the Holidays provides positive alternatives during times when young people might otherwise experience greater:
Isolation • Inactivity • Exploitation Risk • Negative Peer Influence • Anti-Social Behaviour • Offending Risk • Emotional Distress
We don't want to create a programme that feels like another intervention.
We create somewhere young people actually want to come.
Within that environment, preventative work can happen naturally through relationships, conversations, activities and positive role modelling.
Removing Barriers to Opportunity
Cost shouldn't determine whether a young person gets to experience something positive.
Neither should transport.
Through funding, partnerships and sponsorship, we aim wherever possible to remove practical barriers that prevent young people from participating.
Where funding allows, places can be provided free of charge to young people and families, helping us reach those for whom activities, transport or days out might otherwise simply be unaffordable.
This is also why partnerships matter.
When organisations invest in opportunity, young people experience things their circumstances might otherwise have denied them.
Working With Schools & Professionals
We work alongside schools, local authorities, youth justice services, social care teams and community organisations to identify young people who may particularly benefit from additional support during school holidays.
Programmes can be designed around:
Individual Referrals • Targeted Groups • Particular Communities • Existing Inspiring Futures Cohorts
Where appropriate, our team can provide feedback to referring professionals while respecting each young person's privacy and ensuring information is managed appropriately.
